QGRY 2500 is literally and figuratively in the depths of Hamilton's industrial area, working along with RLHH 2111 on a hot, sticky, and eventually stormy evening. The two are pictured here working Strathearne Yard. Shortly after, I heard another SOR train get clearance to go down the hole, and waited for them at Irondale where I watched a mighty storm over Burlington. They never did come, as I would see them at Vopak on my way home after the storm hit Hamilton.

Was out fishing (as Steve calls it) in Hamilton's industrial area and heard CP talking about a diamond. That narrowed it down for me pretty quick so from the far east end where I currently found myself, I first went towards Gage. Seeing nothing, I next went over to the Irondale area in time to find CP laying on the horn to let the staff at MANA know to come open the gates. With a storm looming, I got this shot in what I feel was interesting lighting for the context. They pulled some gons out of there and then back to Kinnear they went. Unfortunately for me, the storm did what storms do and it was raining by the time they got to Main Street.

I've always liked these G&W units against a grey sky. Snow would threaten all day as I 'chased' these guys from Garnet to Nanticoke, but it held off.

Chased 514 in the pouring rain from Chatham to Blenheim and back. The rain finally gave way in the afternoon for the run to Thamesville, where 4777 can be seen on its way there running long hood down the Chatham Sub.

Happy birthday to me! I am fortunate that my place of employment gives us our birthdays off work, and what better way to spend a birthday than trackside? With a snowy day in the mix, I didn't want to go too far and didn't really want to drive in the snow either, so I strapped on my winter great including big winter boots and trudged the 30 or so minute walk down to Stuart Street. I don't think I looked much different than the SOR crew member in the shot, other than I wasn't wearing high vis. SOR was up to their usual switching in the yard when I got there, and not long after 550 joined the fray, led by a very characterful unit: 4726. One whose presence I miss around here! It truly has a face only a railfan could love.

3049 and 3404 run light as X597 north to Paris on Victoria Day 2018. We'd also be treated to 2111 doing some street running in Brantford on this day. Will share a shot of that at some point.

436 has just dropped a string of grain hoppers and the power is tied down where it would sit for the rest of the day before becoming the power for 437 on the return trip to Winnipeg.

CN 4717 and 4777 have just tucked under the 401, making the slow and steady trek down the Sarnia Spur with a string of empty hoppers for the elevators in Blenheim. This is perhaps my favourite run in the province, combining a local job, a relic of a branchline, grain hoppers/elevators, and open countryside.

I went out to Thunder Bay to see a couple of things I never get to see in Southern Ontario - grain trains and coal trains. I got treated to this Union Pacific coal train for three days while it was being unloaded at Thunder Bay Terminals Ltd. TBTL is owned by Russel Metals, and it would seem that it handles quite a bit of coal and potash, which comes in from the west and is loaded on ship.

4003 is about to come out of the gates at Bunge in Hamilton onto Burlington Street with a cut of tanks just lifted from Vopak. They would lift a cut of empty grain hoppers from Bunge next.

This shot kind of reminded me of racers at a starting block, except I don't think QGRY 2500 stands a chance being on the Burford Spur. The crew has finished at Ingenia and will head back to Stuart via the Dundas Sub.

Heard this CP spray train on the scanner while on a trip to Thunder Bay and ended up "chasing" it out of the city. Luckily for me, it was restricted to 15 MPH so the chase was a rather easy one using the Trans Canada Highway.

Typically when you catch a train at this crossing at Simcoe Street in Hamilton (mile 0.24 of the N&NW Spur), they're done working and on their way back to Stuart. However, in what was a first for me, 4003 is actually still working in this shot, switching either Vopak or Bunge (not sure which at this point) about a half-mile away. I believe they had to come out this far to clear a switch.

Waiting on the Ferguson Ave bridge in crippling heat for over an hour and a half waiting for SOR prompted me to do something I seldom, if ever do: take a picture of a passenger train. But I am sure glad I did! Amtrak 108 on the Grimsby Sub in Hamilton.

The critter at Bunge brings a couple of empty hoppers towards the plant, to later be loaded with the byproduct of the oilseed crushing.
