Pick a track. When the Allandale Waterfront station was built the Barrie-Collingwood line to Innisfil was moved closer to Gowan Ave. The chances of seeing a BCRY train adjacent a GO train would be pretty slim.

1057 developed a running gear problem on an excursion to Havelock. Repairs were made and the excursion was short turned on the wye at Dranoel. Prior to returning a runpast was done on this S curve. We were waiting in Peterborough for the train and drove out when we heard of the problem. This photo was likely taken by my mother. I'm standing to the right of my dad in the plaid jacket

The southbound Canadian passes the UCRS "Huronia Limited" excursion in the siding At Carley. Two CN FPA-4's pulled the train over the Mactier Sub to Medonte, branching off onto the remnant of the Port McNicoll sub and then on the CN Midland sub, stopping at the Hoggs Bay trestle. The excursion was running late, so seeing the Canadian was a bonus.

Narrow gauge through the bush. When the tracks were lifted on the CN Beeton spur in the early 90's, the 80 lb. guardrails were left behind on this bridge north of Allimil junction. The Town of New Tecumseth owns most of the right of way, but only a few kilometers south of Tottenham has been converted to trail.

This baggage car moved around a bit before ending up at a gravel pit to the east of Tottenham. It spent some time at Uhthoff as it was being considered as an addition to Webers restaurant. I believe it moved to Medonte when the line to the Quarry was abandoned. It then went to the South Simcoe Railway and finally ended up here.

Tucked in the trees to to the south of Barrie's Southshore Community Centre, this fire hydrant would have protected the Allandale roundhouse and the adjacent master mechanics office. Whats left of the Allandale yard is now used by GO Transit. Part of the Roundhouse floor remains behind the hydrant. The master mechanics office was saved and became the front portion of the community centre in 1994. As part of the renovations, We had the fire department hook up to the hydrant to see if it could be used in the reno. As water sprayed out of all sorts of places in the basement, we concluded it was not a good idea!

Out to Pasture. This remnant of a former CP coach sits about a kilometer south of the end of track in Tottenham. The South Simcoe Railway scrapped a few coaches in the mid 90's. Why and how it got here I don't know.

CP 437136 waits out the weekend in front of the Peterborough station. Ex CPR 4-6-0 1057 was to arrive later on an excursion but was short turned at Dranoel due to a running gear issue. The station lost it's canopy a few years later. The schedule board for Dayliner service probably went at the same time. The caboose was preserved in White River. Some details in this photo, 437136 is sporting a backup whistle. The silver post in front of the canopy was the "circuit end" sign for the crossing of George Street. Behind the caboose is Rehill Building Supply which still had a siding and coal pile. Photo probably taken by my Mother with editing assistance by the RP folk.

Former CP 4-4-0 136 gets flagged across George Street on a dreary warm March day. 136 and a train of two cars with people in period clothing were being filmed by a CHCH tv crew for a Christmas special by the Dofasco choir.

[Editors note: accepted for rarity] CN 4568 won't be going anywhere for a while. The rear end of the tank car and front of the second box car are on the ground on top of the switch to the CP interchange tracks. The signal protecting the diamond crossing is just visible to the right of the train. The train is on Bethune Street just south of Dalhousie Street. Behind the train was a vacant lot where a former turntable pit outlined in timbers was still visible. It's now a parking lot. There is a building still standing on Wolfe Street that has an angled wall from the former lead to the turntable. Photo by my brother with some editing assistance. I'm the kid cluttering up the photo under the street light.

CN GP-9 4514 is returning from a trip up the Lakefield spur to retrieve a gondola car from Lakefield Research. It will soon be on the street running on Bethune Street. There are a couple of unusual things in this shot. While GP-9's were common, geeps with snow shields were not common in Peterborough. The relatively new transfer caboose showed up for a week and was not seen again. Photo from my collection, taken by my brother out the car window.

A nicely matched pair of SD-40-2's lead grain empties north approaching milepost 67. Apart from the plated over classification lights and relocated horns not much has changed from when these units were built in the 80's.

1001 heads back to the yard in Utopia with a pair of cut down gondola cars used for maintenance. The rails have been getting polished every day this week.
