CP 5014 hit a truck full of Jet Fuel in the CP Coquitlam Yard back on January 22nd that resulted in a massive fireball and much damage to the unit. After being shipped away it recently returned and was placed in the BNSF New Yard in New Westminster for furtherance to Progress Rail in Tacoma WA. The unit is still local at time of writing, but now back on CP trackage near Fraser Mills. A rare NS lashup heading toward the CN Thornton Yard from the BNSF at Brownsville in Surrey. BNSF frequently sport odd mixes of units, but to get a solid set like this is less frequent.

JLCX 1591, Ex CP 1591 (GMD GP9u). After being on the Dead Line at the CP Coquitlam Shop for some time, this well performing workhorse went to SRY. It was sold to JLCX and they did some minor repair work to it. It's a solid performer. Where it goes from here I'm not certain.

I got word from reliable sources, saying that because the Rocky Mountaineer locomotive RMRX 8018 was in at VIA getting a wheelset replaced, the BNSF 2087 will be filling the gap. The RMRX 8018 is one of the units handling the “Whistler Mountaineer”, Rocky’s day tour train travelling between North Vancouver and Whistler return. $$.

The plan was for a Rocky crew to taxi over to the BNSF New Westminster Terminal (not far from my place), at between 1230 and 1300 Hrs to pick up the BNSF 2087 (EMD GP38-2). Then they would travel Lite Engine over to the North Shore to assume second position on the Whistler Mountaineer from Friday till Monday.

These old girls go to SRY in New Westminster for prepping, then onto ABC Metals to be scrapped. Select components are used in the manufacture of the new GP20C-ECO units.

On the weekend of August 17th, the cities of Port Coquitlam and Port Moody held their respective Centennial celebration events. CP assisted in these milestone events by providing the Royal Canadian Pacific power and a few coaches to the cities for public rides during the two days.

The consist included the CP 4106 & 4107 (GMD FP9u’s), and the CP 1900 (GMD F9B). None are original CP stock. The train had Power Car CP 96, Coach “Dominion” CP 101, Coach “Smokey Smith” CP 102, and Business Car “Mt. Royal” CP 73.

On Sunday the 18th, the train made two trips from Port Moody to Mission return. This photo is of the second trip East taken from Kennedy Road in Pitt Meadows BC looking West towards the Pitt River Bridge at mile 109.6 on the CP Cascade Sub.
