About RTCDave

I have been photographing trains since I was 15 years old back in nineteen seventy something. I have worked on the railway since 1979 starting at Conrail in Windsor, and have worked at both CP and CN. My first slide camera was my Dad's old Zenit-E (Russian POS with a sticky shutter). From there I went through a few Minolta SRT-201's and X-700's. I now use a Nikon D-60 which still works fine. I have started scanning slides using an Epson V550.

One to cool you down during this hot and humid July 2020.

CP 5511 is being used to hostle 4700 either into or out of the Windsor roundhouse. Sometimes during cold weather, the big-un's air starters would freeze up so they would shove them into the house for a warm-up.
CP5552-4706 in the background are sitting on the fuel/sand track.

Who's on third? A trio of VIA FPA-4's 6765-6789-6769 await their next assignment at the Spadina roundhouse in downtown Toronto on August 4th 1982. The approximate location of third base at Skydome, er sorry, I mean Rogers Centre today.

I believe a few were imported by Bombardier to be rebuilt for use on the Montreal commuter lines. I may be wrong, but the timing of the Rover RTC couldn't have been better for me to get this roster shot.

The old boiler in the basement of the depot is working overtime on this frigid January morning as a C&O Puller (Even after the CSX it was still referred as the C&O Puller) is seen returning to Rougemere Yard in Dearborn, Michigan from the CP Yard in Windsor. The old NYC/PC/CR depot is now CN Windsor South and was nicknamed "The Hub" by local railfans that used the station as a meeting place.

Conrail St Thomas to Windsor local WQST-1 "The Plug" passes beneath the Hwy 401 bridge and clatters across the C&O diamonds at Pelton on the South side of Windsor.

A day trip to the Niagara Region with my late friend Mike McIlwaine on Aug 18th 1980. Our last stop before heading home to Windsor was the CR/THB Welland Yard where we found GP-7 74 just waiting to be lit up by a few flash bulbs.

Most of my posts to date have been scanned K-64 slides, but with the pending take back of the Guelph Sub by CN I guess we wont be seeing this in Georgetown much longer. I was out playing with my new Nikon D3400. I posted this on FB with the caption "If you only shoot one train a day. One with a Tunnel Motor in the lead is acceptable". One day I'll have to go thru my California slides to see if I ever shot this unit on Cajon or at Tehachapi.

Three Canada Division GP9s (7432-7437-7434) lead a small WQST-1 off Westbound main and into the Class Yard lead at Howard Ave, Windsor Ont just before sunset on Sept 30th 1992. Normally, this train would arrive in Windsor early afternoon and would be back in St Thomas by this time. In the distance above the Eastbound main can be seen the signals at Pelton.
