Their work in the north end complete, L542 cuts through XV Yard on their return to the Guelph Sub with 19 cars on the drawbar for Kitchener, including 17 from interchange with the GEXR.

<b>Last CN Passenger service at Palmerston, part 3.</b> Three CN railiners meet on the Newton Sub platform at Palmerston, preparing to go their separate ways for the final time. In the middle, an RDC-1 from Owen Sound (formerly train 672) was the first to arrive at 0655h, followed by RDC-1 6118 from Kincardine at 0700h (formerly train 662, furthest from the camera). The final movement to arrive at 0705h, RDC-2 6354 from Southampton (formerly train 668), has been added to the front of the Owen Sound car awaiting departure. In just a few minutes at 0715, passenger service will cease as Extra 6354 departs for Toronto via Guelph (former train 658) and Extra 6118 departs for Stratford (former train 663).<br><br><i>John Freyseng Photo, David Warne Collection slide.</i>

Led by a classic A-B-A set of covered wagons, CN's Nanticoke steel train approaches Stelco's Lake Erie Works. Late summer 1986 kept photographers occupied with this train as the days of the F7s were waning. The thunderous passing of CNR U-2-g 6200 must've been quite an experience for the boy on his bike as Saturday only train 111 departs Brampton for London. At left cars can be seen spotted at a few <a href=http://jpeg2000.eloquent-systems.com/toronto.html?image=ser12/s0012_fl1968_it0289.jp2>trackside industries</a> which have long since been cleared for the GO Transit parking lot. In the distance the steeple of Grace United Church at Main Street North and Church Street West can be seen. While on the way to shoot <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=49455>GIO on the Cayuga Sub,</a> a brief stop in Tilsonburg was warranted, where OSR's twice weekly Tilsonburg Job was busy switching cars at Future Transfer.

CN L540 heads east through the changing skyline of downtown Guelph with traffic for Canwel at Acton. Up until recently, only the north track was in use through here, with the south seeing it's last train around 2007 due to a broken rail. The majority of south track would be lifted during 2014. With plans for Metrolinx to increase service on their Kitchener Line to 2-way, all day frequency, the south track is to be reinstalled, requiring restoration work of this bridge (Norfolk Street, built 1967) and Wilson Street (off to right, built 1902, full replacement). With the south spans repaired/replaced, current rail traffic has shifted south for the north spans to be worked on. Other work includes rebuilding/strengthening of the retaining walls nearby, a new south platform at the station, and more in the future.

Daily except Sunday train 27 (Toronto - Stratford) starts into the curve on the approach to Guelph having just crossed Watson Road. Looking south, London & Port Stanley Railway L4 is seen working in Pinafore Yard in the south end of St. Thomas. Houses along Parkside Drive can be seen at left with what is now the St. Thomas Curling Club beyond the L&PS coal hopper.<br><br>Designed primarily for the export market, the L&PS was the only domestic buyer of the 1310hp GMD G-12 with two units on their roster. The L4 built in 1955 and shortly after, the L5 in 1957. Both would continue in service on the CN roster after the L&PS purchase on January 1, 1966 becoming 991 and 992. Near the end of 2021, a consist bringing out a number of the foamers was that of CN 3008, CREX 3934, KCS 4126 heading up M302. Nearing it's destination of Toronto, the train is seen making it's trek upgrade by mile 30.

CN L568 lifts traffic out of HCL Logistics on the Oxford Spur. Having worked Stratford Yard and Agromart on their westward trip, they will have a straight shot home to Kitchener after spotting inbound cars.

The Guelph Junction Railway's north industrial area is a busy operation shared both by GEXR and CN, with customers receiving service from either or both railways. With their drop at the interchange complete, GEXR 582 pulls ahead to clear the wye on the North Industrial Lead, giving CN L542 a chance to pull clear of the South Industrial, and back around the wye. 582 will head for the South Industrial while L542 will lift its interchange traffic and return to home rails.
