Fans start to gather at the Peterborough station on a Sunday morning to see Ex CP 4-6-0 1057 which was scheduled to run to Havelock and return from Toronto. A running gear problem would require the trip to be short turned at Dranoel. A large crowd was disappointed. Fortunately we found out where they were turning around and actually knew how to get to Dranoel. Photo by my Mother and scan my Brother

Cavan station in its later years. It still has the train board and the Dayliner still offered passenger service. It was demolished a couple of years later. The siding was usually used for car storage. Photo and scan by my Brother.

In what looks like a model railroad, 4068 exits the wye at Labelle near Mont Tremblant. This was a fall colours excursion from Montreal. All passengers got a turn in one of the dome cars. photo by my mother, scan by my brother.

A tank engine rests near a few others at what appears to be a gravel plant. This unlabeled photo was in a group of photos taken by my Grandfather during a time he was working on the powerhouse for the Churchill grain elevator. The topography is definitely not of the Churchill area. It took a while to determine where this shot was taken and this is the best I can determine. Presumably stone from this location was used for the construction of the line to Churchill and the elevator as well. A generating station was built on this site in the 70's. During construction of the Churchill grain elevator, 0-4-0 #8 pushes what appears to be a stationary boiler under a tarp. Judging by the number of workers around, there must be a problem. The large steel frame is for the conveyor from the elevator out to the pier for loading boats. The travelling crane erecting the frame has a pair of booms and has a boiler in the corner. Photo taken by my grandfather from the roof of the powerhouse with editing assistance from the moderators.

Tourists on the Great Gorge Route get a good close look at the Niagara river. A lot of rock has come down since this photo was taken by my Grandfather in 1928. The line opened in 1895 as the Niagara Falls and Lewiston Railroad, running from Lewiston to the Honeymooner Bridge near the present day Rainbow Bridge. The line was merged and connected in 1902 with the Niagara Falls Park & River Railway line on the Canadian side and became known as the Great Gorge route. Rockfalls and landslides were a constant problem. The line on the Canadian side closed in 1932. A portion of the line is visible north of the botanical gardens and butterfly conservatory. The line on the American side closed in 1935 after a 5000 ton rock slide came down just north of the whirlpool bridge. On the American side a trail runs on the roadbed from the Rainbow Bridge to below the whirlpool bridge. Location approximate, editing by the moderating team.

The inagural run of GO Transit's permanent weekend service to Toronto boards passengers at the Allandale Waterfront Station. The weather demonstrates the benefit of this service.

After being relocated to the Simcoe County Museum in 2008 to allow for road reconstruction in Barrie, 1531 has had its asbestos removed. Despite the appearance, it is probably in better hands here at the museum.

Built to last. This wig wag signal has been on the side of Islington Avenue a long time. I recall seeing it about 35 years ago when there was nothing around and thought it was long gone. Today it is surrounded by development but it is in surprisingly good shape. There are redevelopment signs on the site, so I doubt it will be there 35 years from now.

A long way from home, Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo 0-6-0 #42 sits on display in Lindsay. Renumbered to #40 in 1959, it was part of the National Museum of Science & Technology collection where it was occasionally operated. It was donated to the Town of Lindsay in 1989 where it was locked away inside a building on Lindsay Street North. In 2000 it was moved to Old Mill Park under a wood framed pavilion that made viewing the engine difficult and vandalism was a problem. In 2009 it was moved again to be beside the display train donated by CN.
