<b>The next adventure</b> <br>This locomotive has had an interesting past. In the 40 years since it first entered service (built 1979 according to a half-assed search) it has travelled millions of miles and its fading Action Red paint is a testament to that story. Rail photography site results show it in various locations across the CPR network in both Canada and the U.S., with plenty of that time spent in the great plains region. Fitting, then, that CP 5906 will be getting a new lease on life at the Northern Plains Railroad in North Dakota and Minnesota. <br>Also of note in the research was a <a href="http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=259">Michael Da Costa photo from 2008 on RailPictures.ca</a> that showed this unit outfitted with cameras and leading the TEC train. <br>On March 30, 2018, CPR tender P5145 for single SD40-2 5906 closed. For whatever reason, it has only made it thus far in the better part of two years. <i>Anyone got insight on that?</i> <br>This 40-year-old is about to embark on its next adventure, beginning with a stop in Sudbury for, presumably, overhaul at Dieselectric Services/Milman Industries. Its years of fighting through the Rockies and the Canadian Shield are over. The plains await.

I just happened to notice that <a href="https://www.cpr.ca/holiday-train/canada">CP has released its 2019 Holiday Train schedule</a> and figured I should share a shot from last year's annual chase that I do with at least one friend, though said companion seems to rotate on a year-by-year basis. Here, the 2018 Holiday Train leaves a rainbow behind as it crosses the French River and lights up the tree-filled hillside on its way to a stop-and-go at Rutter.

Huge thanks to the owners of the French River Supply Post for not only allowing me to shoot on their property after they closed for the season, but for also agreeing to turn on the lights in the store to create this warm, homey atmosphere on a cold night.

I was heading north on Highway 69, looked to my right and saw this quartet of locomotives surging forward. With no passenger to grab a pace shot I decided to pull off here, about 10 kilometres up the road, and (unfortunately) crank the ISO as I stood momentarily in the rain. The paint condition of the various units reveals their respective ages in their current forms.

I saw a cut of cars making its way west on the Sudbury Spur at the east side of town. I fought traffic to this spot and soon heard the prime movers grinding across the bridge. I would've liked to have been slightly higher and further out, but given the steep slope, this was about as best as I could do. Oh, and I suppose CP could have sent a train on one of its two subs underneath the bridge to make it just that much better!

This southbound CN manifest passes the bustling Sudbury Junction VIA station as it rolls toward the Lasalle Blvd. crossing with an ex-UP standard cab toaster in tow. The track at left which starts by the station is the north leg of the wye onto the Sudbury Spur.
