Caption: The most frustrating part about shooting trains in Niagara Falls was the fact most did not enter the city until sundown. I was getting very nervous waiting for this one as it slowly crawled over the former MCRR bridge spanning the Niagara River. The light had faded quickly and I hand held the camera at maybe 30th of a sec. Balanced it somehow, perhaps. As a result this was my only shot. By the time this train was wholly on the Canadian soil, it was too dark to shoot.
A real shame, too. In the height of the "leasing era" of the mid 1990s, this day's #521 had CP 749 (x-SOO) and three leasers: HLCX 662, 3060 and 663.
The 3060 was x-CR. Interesting thing about the 662 and 663 is that they are two of three former Amtrak locomotives leased. (The other was 664). Looking for temporary power caused a real frenzy back then as CP was, for a time, desperate..

Arnold, are you familiar with the movie “North West Frontier”? Seeing the bridge here brought it to mind – and in particular the scene with the really high bridge. It’s a great movie for train lovers.
Nope. Never heard of it, Joe. But I guess I shall watch out for it now. )
