In the summer of 1964, fifty years ago lashups of pure Wabash F-units were common. Two lashups with Wabash F7's 676 and 725 leading other F's in various paint schemes sit at the Central Avenue bridge, near the border in Fort Erie ON.

  1. The “Ultimate” Fort Erie image. Thanks, Bill.

  3. Spectacular!

  4. and to think I was excited to see a standard cab NS GE here two weeks ago….awesome shot Bill

  5. It’s so hard to believe how much ran through Fort Erie at one time! Amazing shot.

  6. In the spring of 1965 when I was 6 years old, my mother ‘made us’ pick wild strawberries near the west end of the rail yard. I was very focused on what I was doing and my back was facing the tracks. (We were a safe distance from them.) Without notice a pair of these F units came along. The engineer took great delight in blowing the horn just as he was even with us. I know…because I saw the smile on his face as I was running full steam back to the car.

  7. The 676 and 725 were built at GMD London, I presume to avoid payment of customs duties.

  8. My Grandfather retired from Wabash, St Thomas in 1958, started as a Fireman in 1911, “promoted” to Engineer 1914. I can imagine he might have been there done that over the years, steam and diesel. I remember some family conversations at how upset Grandpa was when N&W took over the Wabash and changed the name of the railway.
